Bob Picco lived in a
pressure cooker. Running a successful business took much of his time.

reacting to his unrelenting schedule. His doctor recognized this. Bob was lucky. Many doctors aren’t able to diagnose
these non-specific responses.

But it’s not what happens to you that causes stress… it’s how you
react—or overreact—to it. Life is moving faster than it ever has! In fact, people are experiencing burn out at earlier
and earlier ages.
Here are just some of the symptoms that indicate you aren’t dealing well
with stress:

These symptoms all indicate a level of stress that’s unhealthy. In
fact, if left untreated, unmanaged stress could kill you.
The seemingly minor symptoms of today can morph into cancer, heart
attack or stroke. Unbelievably, over 70% of all doctor’s visits are due to stress related symptoms!
In a moment, you’ll find out exactly what Bob did to “cool down his
stress soup.” But first let me explain why I’m using the analogy of hot soup as stress.
Cooling down the stress soup
A friend of mine explained a simple stress management technique
which was the basis for his entire outlook on life. And believe me; he had been through any number of situations
which would have leveled a lesser individual. His words of wisdom had been handed down from his father. His advice was simply
this:
Don’t eat the soup as hot as they cook it!
This one piece of wisdom has helped tens of thousands of people to
manage, control and even conquer the stress in their lives, leading to a more positive outlook.
You see, when you are dealing with chronic stress, your body reacts
in any number of ways…

living in a fog you can’t seem to get yourself clear from.
At least not by yourself.
At some point, you need to get help. And I’ve been helping people
for the last 20 years to overcome the minor and major symptoms of stress.
My name is
Cameron Johnston and after my own burn out
in 1985, I discovered there were many folks just like me who were unaware they
were on their way to suffering severe mental, physical and emotional crashes that could leave them unable to function as they
had before.
My own story is much like Bob’s. Like him, I was working way too
hard. I spent many hours away from my family. I was in a helping profession—a pastor—where so many people were counting on me to
help them find answers to their problems. The overload became so bad I had a physical—and emotional—breakdown. One
day my body started to shake uncontrollably and didn’t stop for more than six hours.
Do you think that scared me?
It did. But not enough to change my lifestyles.
I continued to put in 80 hour weeks. I ignored this extreme stress warning
signal--and several others. After two more months, I decided I needed a
two month holiday. That’s when my burn out occurred!
Three hours into my much needed vacation, I went into such a deep
depression I thought I would never recover from it. Sometimes you can deal with a high level of stress for a long period of
time. But as soon as you relax… that’s when it really hits you.
I didn’t have a positive thought for the next three
weeks. I should have been under a doctor’s care.
When I got back from vacation, I did see a doctor. He told me I’d
used up all my resources. I went to my boss and asked to work half time.
It was 3 years before I
really fully
recovered from burn out.
After that I decided to apply my Masters of Science Degree in
Public Health to running seminars on how to deal with stress. The latest version is called
Cooling Down the Stress Soup.

How to get the stress free
life you deserve. . .
|
Stress is the spice of life. It can be fantastic. Or it can be fatal.
It’s all up to you. As well as respecting the dangers of stress, you can learn to harness its benefits.
Whether the stress in your life is positive and productive or
negative and unproductive depends on how well you develop your coping skills. Stress management is a process. You will NEVER be
stress free, but you can learn to manage it for optimum results.
Here are the 9 different and unique steps that
will help you control, manage or even minimize the stress you feel on a day-to-day basis.
1. Measure your stress levels--take
the temperature of the soup
In my seminars, I compare measuring stress levels with measuring
the temperature of your stress soup. You need to test where you’re at before you can take action.
This test can be simple, or complex. I offer a quick
self-administered stress test in one of the workbooks that seminar participants receive. In 15 minutes or so, you can get a good idea of
your stress levels.
This simple test will show you where you’re at and what steps you
need to take next.
2. Control your stress response--let
the soup sit
Your body doesn’t differentiate between positive or negative
stress. Any positive challenge or negative threat to which your body
will automatically react causes your body to release hormones
including adrenalin into your blood stream. This involuntary response can have a devastating effect on your overall health if it
happens too often, especically over prolonged periods of time.
Did you know there are 6 ways to effectively control your
stress response? Each of these can help you in a stressful situation, but combined, they become a magic formula to control your
body’s natural response to stressful situations.
Using these techniques will quickly allow your body to recover
quickly and end the debilitating effects of being overstressed in any situation.
3. Master relaxation--thin
the soup
The natural counterbalance to the stress response is the relaxation
response. The biggest difference is while the stress response is involuntary; the relaxation response is entirely under your
control.
In my seminar, I show people a number of techniques that will
elicit the relaxation response. One method is so powerful, it’s like getting a full night’s sleep in 20 minutes or less! And it’s so
easy to learn, children could master it in their first or second attempt.
But that’s only one of the several ways you can use to master
relaxation. You’ll also discover several other ways to calm yourself down without effort.
4. Regular Exercise--stir
the soup
We’re all aware of the positive benefits of exercise. It helps you
to stay in better shape, feel younger and stronger, and can improve our overall outlook on life. But were you also aware of the way
you can use exercise as a stress management tool?
You don’t have to hit the gym at 6 am every morning (unless you
want to!) to get the stress-busting benefits of physical fitness. I’ll show you some simple and enjoyable exercises you can do
that and are guaranteed to reduce your stress levels in no time.
These aren’t difficult and even the most out of shape person can
get pleasure from these simple exercises. Imagine being able to tell someone, “I can do that!” because you’re confident of your
strength and energy levels.
Exercise doesn’t have to be hard. You can learn these exercises in
minutes and enjoy them for the rest of your life!
5. Humor--play
with the soup
It’s been said that laughter is the best medicine. Twenty seconds
of laughter is equivalent to rowing for three minutes. No wonder you feel better after a good joke or watching a funny movie.
I share some simple strategies during my seminar. You’ll be able
to use these tools any time you feel stress overwhelming you.
6. Eat Well--make
sure the soup is nutritious
There’s a simple one-sentence university course on nutrition. It
was developed by Dr. John Scharffenberg, Professor of Nutrition at Loma Linda University. This one sentence covers the whole
spectrum of good eating habits. It’s helped thousands of people to overcome some significant health challenges. When properly
applied, this sentence has the power to change your life.
When I mention this sentence in my seminar, I see people’s eyes
light up with understanding. Those who “get it” often contact me later to thank me for the simple, powerful course on
nutritious eating.
7. Resolve Deep Seated Stress
(beware of the poison in the soup)
Deep seated stress includes low self-worth, unresolved grief,
guilt, anger, hatred, hostility jealousy, revenge and negative
attitudes such as pessimism, criticism, and cynicism… and unnatural fear
and anxiety… hopelessness and depression.
Each of these needs to be addressed in distinct ways. For instance,
the best way to resolve low self-worth is to understand
your own value. I show you ways to do that, and how to apply what you
learn about yourself in your life.
But there is ONE component that will give you more
self-worth than any little trick or strategy you might learn in a seminar.
Understand this and your life will be filled with value.
You also need to be aware of the external types of poison that
affect you: Drugs—even caffeine and nicotine—alcohol,
prescription medications and hard drugs all have an effect on your
stress levels.
8. An Attitude of Gratitude

This one is pretty much self-explanatory. The more grateful you are
for what you have, the less stressed you are about
what you don’t have.
9. Controlling Your Pace
(eating the soup slowly and enjoying it)
Take time from your busy world to just enjoy life. I’ve packed my
